Katie’s New Mom Smoothie

This smoothie recipe was developed with the new mom in mind! Some of the ingredients are thought to help with lactation support, but there isn’t a lot of hard science on foods or supplements that are proven to promote milk production. Nutritionally, the most important ways new moms can care for themselves are by eating a wide variety of fresh fruits and vegetables and staying hydrated. Smoothies are the perfect answer to keeping up with healthy eating habits, replenishing lost nutrients after birth and sneaking in the extra hydration requirements.
This particular smoothie has plenty of iron, omega 3’s, calcium, electrolytes, protein and calories to qualify as a nutritious meal. The turmeric, ginger and cinnamon give it a little bit of a “pumpkin spice” kick. It’s delicious!
1 large handful of organic spinach
1/2 small avocado
1 cup frozen strawberries or blueberries
1 small banana
1/2 cup organic baby carrots
2 tablespoons organic ground flaxseed
1/4 teaspoon turmeric
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ginger
pinch of salt
1 cup of soy milk
Place all ingredients in a powerful blender and blitz. Add water until your desired consistency is reached.
